Registered clinical counselling

Counselling supports individuals, couples and families in making changes and moving towards a better understanding of ourselves and others. This is best achieved with a counsellor who provides a safe and non-judgemental space to explore thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. Through this process of exploration, people can become more hopeful and content, and learn skills and strategies to use in daily life.

People often seek counselling for family conflict, abuse and trauma, mental health issues, such as anxiety and depression, stress, loneliness, feelings of worthlessness and substance use. Counselling can also be beneficial for dealing with life transitions, grief and loss, parenting struggles, anger and learning effective communication techniques.

It is important that a counsellor respects a client’s values and preferred counselling approach. Some questions to consider when choosing a counsellor:

  • What is the counsellor’s level of education?

  • Do they offer a free phone or in-person initial consultation to help determine fit?

  • How long have they been practicing?

  • Does their availability fit your schedule?

  • What fees do they charge?

  • Are they a member of a professional association?

Through counselling, you can expect to experience an increase in the following:

  • Understanding of self and others

  • Ability to articulate challenges and strengths

  • Resilience and coping strategies

  • Peace and clarity

  • Contentment and hope
